Instructions for book and cover printing (Microsoft Word): Page setup and print commands required for book printing are largely encoded in the file. However several options need to be sent for individual printers. A simple example of these is given for a Brother HL-2140 printer. Before printing, go to: FILE > PAGE SETUP - to set book print mode. OPTION 1: Single sheet style book (recommended): MARGINS tab: Margins - top, bottom and inside margins to 0.75", Outside to 0.95" Gutter - set to 0 (outside margin handles binding gutter) Orientation - LANDSCAPE FOR CONTENTS FILE: Multiple pages - SET TO: 2 PAGES PER SHEET Preview - Apply to whole document FOR BOOK FILE: Multiple pages: SET TO: book fold sheets per booklet: 4 PAPER tab: Paper - LETTER LAYOUT tab: Section start - NEW PAGE Section direction - Left-to-right Headers and footers - check-DIFFERENT ODD AND EVEN, check-DIFFERENT FIRST PAGE Header, footer - set to 0.4" FILE PRINT: Duplex printing setup (Brother): PRINT > PROPERTIES button > ADVANCED tab > click 2nd (A/B) button, click MANUAL DUPLEX, click duplex type: FLIP LEFT EDGE, click OK. Click OK on popup window when ready. DO not click second window until first (front sheet printing) job is done. Reverse sheets and click on second popup window. Front and back extra sheets attach to endpages. OPTION 2: Signature style book (professional binding): Basic settings are as given above. However within the MARGING TAB of PAGE SETUP: Multiple pages should be set to REVERSE BOOK FOLD Sheets per booklet should be set to 4-12 depending on size of desired book signatures. COVER PRINT: Open read only file, print onto 10x17" poster stock in landscape orientation. Print shop will trim to exact book size. Only the long print edge should require trimming within the printed surface.
